A Little Background

Just a little background information for those who do not know us. My name is Jody Waters, and we live in San Angelo, Texas. It is a great little city with a BIG TEXAS HEART! My husband, Bill, and I met here while I was finishing at Angelo State and have been here for over 15 years. We have two children, Jordan age 11 and Wyatt age 9. We live in Santa Rita and both kids go to school there. I my favorite quote is that "Santa Rita is the best neighborhood in town." I love being apart of this community.

I taught school for several years until staying at home for awhile with my babies. I have been the Kid's Day Out director for Sierra Vista Methodist for 8 year now and love it. Bill taught at Glenn Jr. High and then was principal. He is now the principal of Central High School. Central is great, the kids are fantastic, and we are loving this new chapter in our lives.

So why are we going to Bolivia? My parents have always been, well, the more adventurous type. They always made sure my brother and I traveled and had an appreciation for different cultures. About a year ago my father was thinking or retiring from principal of Christoval HS and was contemplating on what chapter to begin next. While surfing the net, he found an international program that helps schools find teachers and principals. He joined and within 2 weeks he had retired, got his passport, and was off to Bolivia to run a college prep school. It was crazy, but if you know my parents, not out of the ordinary for them. My mother followed at Christmas and now it is time for a visit.

I am so excited about this trip, for not only myself, but my children. This truly is a trip of a lifetime. To get to spend so much time in a country is unusual. I am hoping to leave with a true picture of the culture, its people, and life in Bolivia. I am sure that my children will carry these images with them the rest of their lives and that their experience will influence decisions they make in the future.

Thank you so much for coming with us on this adventure. Here are some highlights to come:

  4. I just read your article in the Standard-Times. What a wonderful experience for you and your children! Mr. Waters was my principle when I was at Glenn and graduated Central just before he took the position there. I can always remember his enthusiasm and daily quote, "Make it a great day.. or not. The choice is your's!" Sounds like you are making the best of the summer break. I hope you safe travels and adventures! - Sarah Darby
